I think it's fair to say that Stevie Ray Vaughan is by no means an underrated player - he is a top influence for millions of guitar players around the world, myself included.

However, I do feel like not enough guitar players pay attention to the genius of his rhythm playing. Whenever I've taught SRV style lessons on my YouTube channel, I've definitely been guilty of mostly focusing on his incredible lead playing and so I wanted to make this lesson about Stevie Ray Vaughan's rhythm chops to balance the scales, so to speak.

In the YouTube lesson, I focus on the rhythm part for a track I put together in the style of SRV. This track borrows ideas from Stevie Ray Vaughan classics such as Mary Had a Little Lamb, Testify, Scuttle Buttin' and more.

The rhythm part I wrote was based around some of Stevie's 'go-to' voicings for the I, IV and V chords when playing a blues in E, or Eb, when tuned down a half-step (for this lesson we're in standard tuning and the key of E).

It also involves some open string licks and riffs that link the chords together to create an interesting, memorable blues rhythm guitar part.
